In Reference to the Knoxville News Sentinel Article published on October 16, 2017 regarding Deputy Justin Johnson:
First, please accept my sincere appreciation for the support we receive from the folks in Sevier County who are able to remain impartial, understanding and prudent until the facts can be heard properly and according to our Criminal Justice System.
The News Sentinel report mentions that a phone call for comment was never returned.
We are not free to make public comment ON ANY criminal case until it has been adjudicated. One of the most difficult tasks that I face as Sheriff is remaining quiet while public scrutiny and speculation runs rampant. Sometimes cases take many months, even years to be heard. Deputy Johnson responded to a situation that in an instant called for a split second response. I’ve served this Community for over 40 years and even though I can not comment specifically on this incident I CAN and WILL say without hesitation that every Deputy at the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office does the best that he or she can given the dynamic, complicated, stressful, dangerous, and fluid situations that we are called to mediate every time a call for help is dispatched. Please understand that we always accept responsibility, both good and bad, for our actions and reactions in all situations. Unfortunately like I mentioned above we are restricted from comment but we will always remain dedicated to the Citizens of Sevier County.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Ronald “Hoss” Seals
