Chief deputy of corrections

4/7/2017

JAMES “RANDY” PARTON
Chief Deputy

Chief Deputy Randy Parton is a native Sevier County resident.  He grew up in the Love Addition Community of Sevier County and currently resides in the Little Pigeon Area of Pigeon Forge with his wife and family.  He graduated from Sevier County High School in 1978, where he played football all four years.  After high school, Randy was accepted to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN.  He graduated from MTSU in 1983 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1984, Chief Parton began his career in Law Enforcement with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office.  He was initially hired by the late Sevier County Sheriff Carmen L. Townsend.  He graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1984.  His career path has exposed him to a total of five (5) different Sheriff’s Administrations.  Throughout the years, Randy has worked in the Communications Division, the Corrections Division, the Patrol Division, the Detectives Division and the Narcotics Division.  His drug and narcotic investigation experience was developed over a period of twenty-four (24) years. As a Narcotics Agent, Randy was responsible for investigating and prosecuting drug cases at the local, state and even federal level.  In 1990, Randy was promoted to the rank of Captain and he was the Director of the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force from 1990-1999.  In 1996, he graduated from the DEA Drug Commander Academy.  In 1999, Parton was assigned to head up the Sevier County Street Crimes Unit.  He held this position for fifteen (15) years, from 1999-2014.  As Captain of Street Crimes, Randy was responsible for supervising a group of Drug Enforcement Agents.  This supervisory role required knowledge of drug and narcotic agent training, use of informants, knowledge of surveillance equipment and techniques for a successful criminal prosecution.  In 2004-2005, Chief Parton was instrumental in developing the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Meth Task Force.  He recruited two (2) Patrol Sergeants and four (4) Detectives and arranged Appalachian HIDTA Meth Lab response training for the group.  Today, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Meth Team is comprised of over ten (10) members and span personnel from Patrol, CID and the Street Crimes Division.

On January 1, 2015, Randy Parton was promoted from Captain to the rank of Deputy Chief and currently serves in this capacity.  As Deputy Chief he sits on the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff and supervises the Communication, School Resource (SRO), Animal Control, Court Security, and Bomb Squad Divisions.

In addition to his Law Enforcement Service, Deputy Chief Parton sits on the Board for the Smoky Mountain Boys and Girls Club.  He is a member of Sevierville Sunrise Rotary and the Sevier County Quarterback Club.  He is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Sevier.  He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police-Smoky Mountain Lodge #31 and the Southern States Police Benevolent Association-Smoky Mountain Chapter.
