Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program committed to raising awareness about the safe and responsible ownership of firearms — and the importance of securely storing firearms when not in use to help prevent access by unauthorized individuals. Since 1999, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, through Project ChildSafe, has distributed more than 37 million free firearm safety kits (which include a cable-style gun lock) to gun owners in all 50 states and the five U.S. Territories through partnerships with more than 15,000 local law enforcement agencies. In 2014, Project ChildSafe launched Own It? Respect It. Secure It.®, an industry-wide campaign to raise public consciousness about firearm safety and responsibility and encourage firearms owners to embrace the importance of proper storage.
Firearms safety begins with understanding and carefully following the rules of safe gun handling.
